What questions does Volume #2 leave us with?

Casino Heroes Episode 2

Casino Heroes Episode 2

A few weeks ago, Volume #2: Generations ended, and with no new episodes or information about what’s coming in Volume #3: Villains, what better than to review the mysteries raised in this first part of season 2?

*** WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers from the entire Volume #2, including its ending, so read at your own risk ***

1. Are Niki and Nathan still alive?

Although neither of them died in the last episode of Heroes, both lives were left in danger. Was Niki still in the house when it exploded? If not, how did she manage to escape? Will Nathan survive the gunshot wound? If so, will he have the help of a superhero to do so?

2. And, precisely, who shot Nathan?

I think it’s obvious that the Company is behind it, but who actually fired the shot? Was it HRG (Noah Bennet), returning to work for The Company? Was it Claude’s return? Or was it someone new?

3. What happened to Caitlin?

I know I’ve raised this before, but what happened to Caitlin? Did she cease to exist because the future she was in no longer exists? Is she still in the future, but in a different one? If so, what does she remember? Will Peter manage to find her, or has he forgotten about her?

4. What else was in The Company’s vault?

What dark secrets did The Company keep hidden? Why were those items down there? What happened to the contents of the vault? Did Nathan, Peter, and Matt take or destroy something? Or did they leave the vault intact?

5. Who is in The Company’s prison in Odessa?

When Peter and Adam went deep into Primatech in Odessa, Adam told Peter that they were in the level where the cells were located. Are those the same cells where we saw Sylar in the previous season? Who is The Company keeping in their small prison? And why?

6. How many more prisons do they have?

Adam and Peter were locked in cells in New York. Is that where Maury Parkman is now being kept? And Sylar was held captive somewhere in Mexico at the beginning of the season. How many of these small prisons does The Company have?

7. Who was Angela Petrelli talking to on the phone at the end of the season?

The logical answer is Bob. But I have a feeling there’s someone above him pulling the strings. In season 1, we were led to believe that Linderman ran The Company, but when he died, he was easily replaced by Bob in season 2. The lack of power struggles among his peers makes me think he was appointed by someone higher up, someone we haven’t seen yet.

8. How big is The Company?

They have offices (with cells) in Odessa, Texas, and New York, and at the very least, a warehouse in Ukraine and a prison in Mexico. How big is The Company? How many people are involved? Are they all people with abilities?

9. Who are the members of the League of Twelve?

We’ve seen a photo of the twelve members, but so far we’ve only met seven – Angela Petrelli, Daniel Linderman, Kaito Nakamura, Charles Deveaux, Maury Parkman, Victoria Pratt, and Bob. We know that one of them, although we haven’t met him yet, is Arthur Petrelli. Who are the other four? We know from the photo that they are two women and two men. We know the photo was taken after Adam Monroe was imprisoned, so he is not one of them.

10. And, who is still alive?

Of the eight members of the League of Twelve we know, only three are still alive – Angela, Maury (even though he is trapped in his own mind), and Bob. What is the status of the other four? Are they still alive, or did they meet Adam?

11. How was the League of Twelve formed?

According to Bob’s story, Adam formed the League to do good. But exactly how did he do it? How did the members meet? We know, through the graphic novels, that Linderman and Arthur Petrelli met during the war. But how did the other 10 with abilities meet, and also form their own Justice League? We must keep in mind, at least, that the heroes of the current generation, even after saving New York in season 1, drifted apart as if that never happened.

12. What were their powers?

The only powers I know of from three of the League of Twelve – Bob can turn metal into gold, Linderman had the ability to heal, and Maury can read and control minds. In my opinion, although I don’t have firm confirmation, Angela has premonitory dreams and Deveaux had some sort of mental power. But what were the powers of the others? Thanks to Bob’s story, we know that at least one of them could control time (weather) or freeze water, an ability that could turn a hurricane into snow.

13. What caused the breakup of the League of Twelve?

The older generation of heroes mentioned more than once something that divided them, an event that pushed them apart, at least ethically. But what was the event? Clearly, over time, their definition of “doing good” changed. But what caused the group to break up? And who was on each side of the controversy? I don’t think the reason was Adam and the virus, as they were still a group when the photo of the twelve was taken, which seems to have been years after both Adam and the virus strain were locked away.

14. Why would Angela protect Victoria?

It’s clear that Angela and Victoria didn’t care for each other and that Victoria didn’t approve of Angela’s methods. So why would a woman who chooses The Company over her own children protect Victoria? It can’t be because Victoria knew the location of the virus, since apparently, several people knew that location.

15. What happened to Papa Petrelli?

In season 1, we were told that Arthur committed suicide. But considering what we know about the Petrellis and their involvement with The Company, I wonder if it was just a cover-up. Which leads to the question, what really happened to Arthur? Did his wife take him out of The Company? Was it someone else? Was he killed in the line of duty working for The Company? Did he want to leave? Did he not approve of Linderman’s plan for his children?

16. Why is Takezo’s symbol the logo of the Petrelli law firm and not The Company’s logo?

When Takezo’s symbol began marking the death of the members of the League of Twelve, Angela said that the symbol was the logo of her husband’s law firm. Why would Arthur use that symbol for his company? I could understand Kaito using the symbol for his own company, but why the Petrellis? Why not use it as The Company’s brand? Also, why did the Haitian wear a pendant (the one he gave Peter) with the symbol? Did it show his loyalty to The Company or to the Petrellis?

17. What made The Company experiment with the virus in the first place?

Clearly, The Company had been experimenting with the virus for a while. We saw it during Hiro’s little trip to the seventies. But why were they experimenting with it? Were they trying to find a cure for the Shanti virus? Or maybe trying to find a way to take abilities from people? Or was it for the deadliest reason that Linderman and Adam showed interest in?

18. Who are West’s parents?

Although I’ve never really cared much about West, I wonder who his parents are. Did they have abilities too? If so, what were they? Do they know their son can fly? Why aren’t they more concerned that he’s showing his powers in public?

19. Who are Elle’s biological parents?

I have similar doubts about Elle’s biological family. Did they know what their daughter could do? Did they have abilities? Did they willingly abandon their daughter? If so, why? If not, what do they think happened to her? Will Elle go looking for them in the future?

20. How are powers genetically inherited?

How does one get their abilities? If it’s genetic, they should come from their parents. How do abilities pass from one generation to the next? Can you have abilities if only one parent has them? Why do some second and third-generation heroes get the same power as their parent (Matt), while others get different abilities (Claire or Micah)? Why does Claire have powers and Nathan’s kids don’t? We’ve seen several power duplications this season. Both Claire and Adam could regenerate. Linderman had the ability to heal (I couldn’t say if his power is the same as Claire’s and Adam’s or just similar). Nathan and West could fly. Does that mean there’s a genetic connection between them, or is it just a coincidence?
